The Field Operations Manager is the leader responsible for the administrative oversight of all Equipment Installation direct hire union field supervision and craft. This involves managing, assigning, developing, appraising, and finding new/additional self-perform resources to ensure the success of the projects assigned; and holding them accountable to follow corporate policies and procedures. This include hiring, firing, and discipline as necessary. Project success is defined as safe, quality built, on-time, on-budget and with client satisfaction.

Business Unit Leadership Support

  • When requested, assist Get Work Team with project approach, technical insight, and labor strategy.
  • When requested by Project Executive and/or Business Unit Leader (high risk projects), participate in Project Hand-Off and Project Kick-Off meetings to ensure complete knowledge transfer and responsibility identification.
  • Maintain customer relations in concert with Project Executive.
  • Assist with internal Walbridge communications and problem resolution.
  • Communicate any major issues to Business Unit Leader.


Assignment & Scheduling of Field Supervision

  • Maintain regular communication with “steady” front line supervisors and craft workers
  • Assign craft field supervisors to projects based on skill set and opportunity needs
  • Schedule and rotate craft field supervision for Depot support as needed when project assignments aren’t available. Coordinate with Depot Manager.
  • Administer project living allowances and travel home policies developed and approved by the Business Unit Leader.


Talent Acquisition & Training

  • Understand all union field supervision team member’s strengths and weaknesses and establish professional development goals.
  • Evaluate / develop training needs and establish individual and group training plans to ensure team members receive necessary technical training and that the required Safety and OSHA training for their positions is obtained and maintained.
  • Hold union craft team members accountable for their development goals and achievement of training plans.
  • Monitor team dynamics and team morale and address deficiencies.
  • Ensure all union field supervision team members are receiving quality and timely performance evaluations.



Process Development & Enforcement

  • Drive safety culture, implementation tools, and accountability.
  • Work with Depot Manager on coordination of equipment usage, holding project supervision accountable for communicating equipment needs and taking proper care of owned equipment, as well as determining equipment needs for the future.
  • Assure proper jobsite set up and an accountability for the following union self-perform project duties:
    • Safety
    • New Hire / On-boarding
    • Payroll / time entry
    • Daily reporting
    • Scope change identification / communication / tracking
    • Productivity metrics
    • Schedule awareness
    • Work packaging
    • Quality Assurance and Quality Control
  • Ensure the occurrence and participation in regularly scheduled project reviews for the following project related items:
    • Safety
    • Labor strategy management
    • Field production and work progress
    • Lessons Learned, VA/VE and Lean / Modularity
  • Assist in project constructability and technical issues and resolution.
  • Drive innovation and trust through the organization.


Special / Critical Projects

  • From time to time special / critical project will arise and when assigned manage and execute these special projects or critical portions of projects.


Union Relations

  • Develop / maintain labor relations with Local and International Union leaders
  • Ensure projects are in compliance with labor strategies and agreements.
  • Take the lead on union labor dispute/grievance resolution when issues need escalated above Project Team level.




  • 15+ years of related construction experience including union building trades supervisory experience.  
  • Lead by example: Able to honor, uphold and communicate the Walbridge Vision, Core Values, Core Purpose, and Ethical Code of Conduct.
  • Seek out, listen and understand feedback from self-perform work force, project teams, and customers
  • Ability to delegate tasks and coach to successful completion.
  • Ability to drive project and personnel issues to conclusion.
  • Deep knowledge and experience with self-performing industrial process equipment installation related projects.
  • Working knowledge of various collective bargaining agreements, including local, international, and site specific agreements.
  • Working knowledge of internal self-perform trades, specifically Millwrights/Carpenters, Iron Workers/Riggers, Operators, and Laborers.
  • Achieves respect of Customers, both internal and external.
  • Exhibits good business sense.
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
  • Be knowledgeable about corporate Human Resource policies regarding hiring, firing, layoff, immigration, discrimination, etc.
  • Be team oriented and transparent while executing duties. Keep colleagues and team members appropriately informed.
